This unique basketball hoop features a backboard composed of a large ceramic tile, intentionally shattered and then reassembled using Kintsugi. This technique, which repairs broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, embraces the philosophy of finding beauty in imperfections and honouring the object's history.
Exposed to the elements, the hoop was left outside to allow nature to alter its design, creating a dynamic and evolving artwork. The natural weathering process has added layers of character and depth, symbolizing endurance and the passage of time.
The reassembled ceramic tile, with its golden seams of Kintsugi, stands as a metaphor for healing and renewal.
"Hoop of Resilience" exemplifies upcycling, celebrating imperfections, and encouraging a deeper appreciation for the beauty found in the unexpected and reclaimed.
